VELOCIO DEFINES WINTER LAYERING WITH ITS DYNAMIC ALPHA SYSTEM FOR CHANGING CONDITIONS

With years of testing and feedback in the harshest winter conditions, Velocio created a two-piece system comprised of jacket and mid-layer, dubbed Alpha System. This highly versatile combination covers an unmatched temperature and weather range, critical to riding here in colder days of the year, when -10°C snow drifts in the dead of winter happen. Velocio sought to minimize the number of pieces in our closet and take the guesswork out of finding the ideal combination for the changing seasons with this new dynamic layering system. Inspired by alpine climbing and ski mountaineering, the Alpha System is designed for both men and women to be as light as possible with high breathability and warmth-to-weight for dynamic changes in aerobic activity, akin to winter cycling.

Velocio was created to celebrate cycling and cycling apparel. Launching with a women’s collection in 2014 their approach has been driven by a three-pillar system: Design, Responsibility and Culture. From the functional details with leading edge design, to manufacturing and development, their design-first approach is at the heart of finding a better way. Velocio takes responsibility for its role in sustainable sourcing by seeking out the most environmentally responsible suppliers possible. The core of this system, the Alpha mid-layer long sleeve, uses its namesake Alpha® Direct insulation from Polartec®, a high loft insulation developed for the military. Alpha Direct is placed in strategic areas to maximize warmth without weight. Alpha creates airspace on all leading panels (sleeves, chest, collar) to trap warm air. This construction allows for exceptional breathability and a quick dry layer through a wide range of temps and dynamic and highly aerobic riding.

• Combining the Alpha with the Signature Softshell Jacket creates an incredibly warm and insulating winter riding shell. Perfect for cold/dry(er) climates, the Softshell will provide added warmth as well as water-resistance from snow or road spray. The added Primaloft internal layer of the softshell adds some thermal quality as well as additional wicking to keep you drier. Tested down into the teens (°C), this is a below-freezing combination that will be hard to match even on the coldest of days.

Inspired by alpine climbing and ski mountaineering, the Alpha Long Sleeve is designed as a mid-layer piece to extend the temperature range of the jackets. The sides, back, and lower sleeve are made from the Merino 210 - a merino fleece-backed fabric that’s exceptionally soft, thermoregulating, and abrasion resistant thanks to the polyester face. A half zip keeps bulk and weight to a minimum and a slim silhouette allows enough room for a base layer, while still fitting trim under the Ultralight Rain or Signature Softshell jackets. Three back pockets promise real storage capacity for long base miles.

Recommended as an easily packable, quickly deployed cold-weather layer over the base layers and under the jackets. Wearing the Alpha Long Sleeve adds warmth to an above-freezing riding kit.

The Softshell jacket draws on over six years of development and testing to create a winter jacket versatile enough to meet the needs of the most demanding cyclist, covering a broad range of temps and conditions. Velocio started with an entirely new pattern, working to balance a trim, flap-free fit, with full mobility and comfort, and room to layer underneath.

Velocio partnered with eVent, a leader in high-performance membranes, to develop our proprietary three-layer softshell, incorporating their Direct Vent stretch membrane with Primaloft performance yarn backer and durable stretch woven and DWR treated face. The result is a truly breathable softshell that has the ability to manage moisture and keep the internal climate warm, but dry -- a critical equation for long winter miles. Designed for temperatures from freezing to 50F/10C and capable of warding off all but the most torrential downpours, thanks to its 10K waterproof membrane, it's a one-jacket solution to winter riding.

Our warmest bib. The ZERO Bib Tight is proven through the darkest, coldest hours of New England winter riding. Designed with fully windproof soft-shell coverage on the front and breathable ThermoRoubaix fabric on the back, these are a step up in warmth and protection from our Thermal Bib Tight. Full fleece-lined from foot to shoulder, the water-resistant ZERO Bib Tight maintains its breathability while making sure you can still ride on the coldest days. Inspired by high alpine mountaineering, the concept combines our DVStretch Soft Shell outer layer for wind/water protection with Polartec's Alpha Direct inside for its high warmth-to-weight insulating qualities, in a newly developed 3D pattern. Alpha Glove € 108,-

There is no greater natural fiber for four-season comfort than merino wool. Its unrivaled ability to absorb and wick away moisture (and still smell good) offers a cooling effect in the summer and a warming effect in the winter for second-to-none comfort while riding. Our range of fall/winter weight base layers utilize merino-based fabrics, sourced from ultrafine merino but cut in a more relaxed fit for added comfort and easy layering. At 160gsm, this midweight base layer adds warmth without bulk for shoulder season through mid-winter riding when worn beneath our long sleeve jerseys and jackets. Or it can act as a stand-alone layer dressed up for any casual Friday (or as Velocio call them, Friday.) Enjoy anti-bacterial, odor-resistant, and thermoregulating goodness in this natural fiber top. Recommended as a first layer to regulate core temperature. Layer under our jerseys, vests, and jackets to ride through the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

Using the latest and most advanced version of Polartec’s renowned Alpha insulation, by adding merino wool, the Alpha Merino Air jacket punches way above its weight in terms of warmth, breathability and performance. Alpha Wool is used as interior insulation on the sleeve, front and collar, while Pertex Quantum Air provides an ultralight wind and water resistant barrier to help trap heat while maintaining class-leading breathability. The back panel of the jacket is made from fleece-backed italian milled recycled polyester to aid in breathability and mobility.

Likely our most technical riding jacket ever, the Alpha Merino Air uses our proprietary 3D patterning and carefully engineered on-bike fit for a super streamlined fit and covering a wide range of temps and conditions.

Alpha Merino Air Jacket € 220,-

Sometimes an easy extra leg layer is necessary. Cyclocross warm-ups. Mid-winter layering. Cold weekday commutes. With a full-length side zip, our new softshell Overpant couldn’t be easier to deploy. Velocio incorporated a windproof and water-resistant softshell front panel using the same versatile eVent 3-layer construction as our Softshell Jacket. Paired with a Primaloft performance yarn backer, the Overpant is an exceptionally breathable option with a 10k waterproof membrane to ward off all but the most torrential downpours.

For the less exposed rear panel, the Overpant deploys the same comfortable and compressive Thermoroubaix Power fabric found in our Thermal Bib Tight. Put everything together and the Overpant is aimed at a better riding experience with a focus on wearability and comfort. This is a piece that can work as a stand-alone against cool conditions or layered for winter warmth.
