No more lost keys: TMD Chain Lock is world’s first smart keyless bike lock with ART-2 certification and integrated alarm

Dutch bike security innovators debut lightweight and user-friendly smart lock that brings premium protection to urban e-bike riders

Almere, the Netherlands, 3rd June 2026 – Dutch innovators TMD Locks have launched the TMD Chain Lock, which introduces a fresh approach that tackles e-bike theft through a superior user experience.  It is the first lock on the market to combine keyless Bluetooth operation with a motion-activated alarm and independent ART-2 certification.

Thanks to its groundbreaking construction, TMD Chain Lock is lightweight and flexible, transforming bike security from a clunky daily grind into a seamless habit. And if someone tampers with your bike, the 100 dB alarm attracts enough attention to deter any bike thieves.

Your phone is your key

Until now, a strong and secure lock – the sort you’d use for your valuable e-bike – has always meant a heavy, cumbersome lock. Surely it’s possible to make secure locks much more user-friendly for everyday use? With the TMD Chain Lock, we’ve succeeded in doing just that; it’s much lighter than a conventional, bulky chain lock, offers the convenience of keyless operation, and features a built-in alarm. The result is a lock that you not only have to use, but actually want to use.   Leonard Heuker of Hoek, Managing Director at TMD Locks

The TMD Chain Lock automatically recognises the rider's smartphone as they come into Bluetooth range; a simple press of a physical button on the lock body instantly unlocks it. The lock can be controlled entirely via the intuitive TMD Locks app on your phone.

Aside from the locking and unlocking of the lock itself, the app offers other features. You can share access with up to five other users, it remembers where your bike was last parked and it displays the lock’s battery level.

In the rare event of a dead phone battery, an emergency code can be entered using the physical button on the lock body, ensuring riders are never stranded.

The secret to lightweight yet rugged protection

Don’t let its refined silhouette fool you. The TMD Chain Lock is engineered to withstand aggressive attacks. It is one of the lightest ART-2 certified locks on the market, but where traditional bike locks achieve this with thick, punishingly heavy hardware, TMD Locks bypassed this with advanced material engineering.

The TMD Chain Lock‘s outer sleeve is made from a soft yet extremely cut and fire-resistant layer. This has made it possible to use a lighter, slimmer core of hardened manganese alloy steel chain without sacrificing overall strength.

The result: an ultra-strong, lightweight and flexible lock that is easy on the bike’s paintwork. Maximum security wrapped in an incredibly tactile, user-friendly design.

What makes the TMD Chain Lock so unique is not a single feature, but rather the combination of technologies and advanced materials. The Kevlar and Dyneema sleeve around the slender core makes it easy to loop around your bike – and it looks elegant too. It’s designed to withstand the harshest conditions and attacks, and with no physical cylinder, the lock cannot be picked. What’s more, the motion-sensitive alarm provides an extra level of security Marnix Heuker of Hoek, CTO at TMD Locks

The TMD Chain Lock is available now in three lengths and three different colours.

The lock is available to buy via the official tmdlocks.com webshop or from selected premium e-bike dealers.
